What a weekend to be a movie-goer! The last few days have given us trailer after trailer for movies big and small. There were super intelligent dinosaurs, fantastical children stories and we even got a better look at that galaxy far, far away. What really excites me the most is that within this summer, there is a movie for almost everyone to enjoy. I can tell you right now that if you need to find me this summer, I will be glued to the seat of my local theater, savoring every moment of these films.
What can be said about this movie that already hasn’t been exaggerated and plastered all over the web. This climatic follow-up to the Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be off-the-wall, ridiculously AMAZING! Hands down! The returning cast look bigger and badder than ever, and the new cast looks equally fearsome. James Spader as Ultron will definitely be the highlight, since his titular villain will be a force to be reckoned with. Plus the Vision looks SWEET! This movie will probably be the highest grossing movie of the summer and it has some big shoes to fill, since the first Avengers grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide. Honestly, I think it will top it.
Say what you want about the music or the humor, but the movie will be absolutely fuego. The Bellas are back to take on the world and they are bringing more music, more set pieces and more ridiculousness with them. Who doesn’t want to see the Green Bay Packers face off against Germans and Anna Kendrick? What is even better is how much heart the cast shares. I can’t wait to see how Beca and the Bellas pull this one off. Plus, a cappella music just sounds awesome.
Insanity. Pure, unadulterated insanity is the only way to describe Mad Max. It’s crazy to see the Road Warrior literally explode back into popular culture like this, and the practical stunts are wickedly satisfying. Everything in this trailer looks like it wants to kill me and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Disney has always sparked the imagination and this films seems to spur that same creativity. Director Brad Bird has always been a favorite and it will be interesting to see how he adapts the future that Walt was so looking forward to create. It also hits quite close to home for all of us. It questions our actions for the future, and hopefully inspires all of us to work together for a better tomorrow.
I have to say that before this trailer, I was skeptical. This property was such a huge hit back in ’93, but it has tapered ever since. While everything seems more of just treading the same water, the creation rebelling against creator trope has given me new hope. Plus, Chris Pratt has been on fire since Guardians and I can’t wait to see him bring that flame to this movie. Come on, him leading a biker gang of raptors? What’s not to love?!
Pixar’s hiatus last year left many worried that the studio had finally hit rock bottom and their creativity was lost. Just the opposite. Inside Out brings Pixar back with full force, bringing us along on an emotional roller coaster of growing up, something all of us can relate to. I can’t say enough great things about this movie. It looks gorgeous, the cast is phenomenal, the puns and jokes are hysterical, and the story is enough to bring a tear to your eye. This will be the perfect family movie.
He wasn’t kidding when he said he would be back. And damn, Arnold looks to out done himself in this one. The Terminator movies have always been confusing, definitely terrifying, but always felt emotional. This movie has already pulled one two of those things because the future looks bleak and the second trailer has a crazy spoiler and HOW THE HECK ARE THEY GONNA EXPLAIN IT?
While I loved them in the original Despicable Me, I think the Minions are a little over done. But everyone else loves them, so why not give them their own movie? They still have the all the adorable charm and slap stick comedy from previous entries and their speak babble is still has cute as they always were. I am not sold on this prequel idea of them trying to find a new bad guy to serve, but the style and time period has me slightly interested. I am not expecting much from this film, but I hope the journey they make to find Gru is one I won’t want to miss.
OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN! My excitement for this movie skyrocketed with the reveal of this trailer. Marvel is really stretching it’s reach with this, broadcasting to the world that it isn’t afraid to showcase some its more “tiny” heroes. Every cast member seems to shine from Paul Rudd’s quips to Corey Stoll’s intimedating demeanor. Michael Douglas seems to shine and lets hope Evangeline Lilly gets to put on the Wasp costume. The special effects with scale look like nothing we have seen before and the epic size of every day objects looks like an incurable amount of fun. Maybe they’ll even add some 3D magic to further the experience. One thing is for sure, this movie will be BIG.
Yet another film that I was skeptical on before I saw this trailer. Maybe its because I want to temper my expectations, but Fox seems to really have done their homework. The reboot of this series looks to take the team and put them in a more grounded role, really striving for realism. While I can applaud the casting and the look, the tone seems a little dark for an light hearted super hero B-team. If direct Josh Trank can pull off the magic he did with Chronicle, then this movie will have characters you will want to care for. And the Thing looks dope.
While these are certainly not the only films coming out this summer, I’m sure these will be one s that most people will be looking forward to. As always with summer months come the action movies, but it seems that there is a little something for everyone hiding amongst the giants. Hopefully we will continue to see a diversity grow among the film community as well as throughout the rest of the year. In the mean time, anyone wanna make some popcorn and join me?
Okay, so I know this isn’t the summer but I had to add it because it came out this weekend and this has me even MORE excited than some of the summer movies.
Chills shiver down my spine every time I watch it. JJ Abrams and the rest of the crew under Disney’s new direction has absolutely nailed the look and feel of Star Wars. Everything in this trailer is gold. The practical effects and new villains are spot on, the special effects and new planets blow me away, Mark Hamill’s voice over is heart felt, and John Williams’ score puts it all over the top. Top it off with Harrison Ford and Chewie at the end make me actually cry with joy. This is the ultimate, passionate continuation fans have been waiting for and deserve. December cannot come soon enough.
